3G comes to Ukraine new generation of telecommunication, new services, new possibilities

In connection with the recent launch of the first Ukrainian 3G operator PEOPLEnet telecom specialists pay much attention to the topic of 3G networks, discussing the importance of innovative 3G services for Ukraine, international experience of launch and development of 3G networks and make forecasts.

On March 26 2007 the participants of the third Mobile Monday conference, held with the support of the companies QArea and Talent Control, gathered in order to be the first to learn about Ukrainian 3G network.

The conference was opened by Sergey Leschenko, Head of the New Product Development Department of PEOPLEnet. Within the topic “Approach to services development of the first Ukrainian 3G operator” Sergey told about PEOPLEnet’s team, 1x EVDO standard and the company’s achievements during the last 6 months. In his presentation Sergey Leschenko also informed that in the nearest future the company is planning to launch such innovative for Ukraine services as mobile TV, video connection and video monitoring. The next step is expected from content and service providers as the company PEOPLEnet offers beneficial cooperation opportunities to them.

The next speaker, Thomas Dreischhoff, Head of Regional Office, Moscow, Eastern Europe and CIS, Deutsche Telekom AG, chose the topic “3G digital content sales case study” and presented Bill-it-Easy billing system. Bill-it-Easy is a convenient, simple, secure platform for users and an attractive business model for content sales for 3G operators.

Vladimir G. Shulga, CEO of People’s Mobile Telephone covered the topic “Perspectives of usage of MVNO business model in development and implementation of 3G network services.” In his report, Vladimir presented a business model where 3G operator has a new role, as a provider of radio access for virtual operators (MNVO). Vladimir shared the company’s plans to develop such business model for UMTS and Wi-MAX networks in Russia together with Infocommunication Union.

About PEOPLEnet: PEOPLEnet is the first national mobile service provider of the third generation (3G 1x-EV-DO) in Ukraine that supplies high-speed Internet services (to 2,4 Mbps), voice communication, and multimedia in Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Odessa. 180 million dollars will be invested in PEOPLEnet development till the end of 2007, which will enable mobile service provider to supply services in all regional centres of Ukraine. Till the end of 2009 PEOPLEnet will supply third generation services to 79 % of Ukrainian population.
