Cloud software

The maker of “personal cloud” computing hardware Pogoplug, Cloud Engines, is adding software to its lineup of product, updated and new programs for mobile devices and computers as it was announced this week

This Wednesday The Pogoplug desktop application launched. This program allows users to store their document libraries, photo and video on their own computers, but get access to them from anywhere deploying an online One View account – even in case these libraries are extended throughout multitude devices and hard drives. iOS app of Pogoplug has been updated to provide access to the new OneView account too.

Software announcement of Cloud Engines comes in the course of a rough month for the hardware business of the company. In mid June it recalled its brand new line of units of Pogoplug Video after it received 2 reports of the device giving off smoke and, probably, flame.

Meantime, the cloud computing market is becoming more competitive as well, as a result of Apple announcement earlier this month about its new iCloud service which allows clients to store music, photos and documents online for free.

Daniel Putterman, Pogoplug CEO has asserted that new offering of Apple should help his business, attracting more customers to cloud computing. The new software products do not emerge to introduce a main shift in strategy for the beforehand hardware-driven company. Putterman has announced that strategy has been to allow clients to store their data on their own devices (in place of relying on 3d party data centres) while receiving the access of the cloud anywhere benefits.

The desktop software Pogoplug costs $29 and it is compatible with any Macs running OS X 10.6 or later. The mobile app Pogoplug is free, and it is compatible with any devices running iOS 4.2.1 or later.
